2nd Place Producthon "Pinch Tickets" App Development
PROJECT INFO
Role: UI/UX Designer
Timeline: 36 hours, 2024
Tools: Figma, Canva
Award: Second Place

In a team of 4, I entered a 36 hour product creation sprint hosted by Tufts University, earning 2nd place overall against 16 other teams.
THEME SELECTION
All participants must make their products based on one of these three categories within the theme of Entertainment. We chose option #3:

1. Media Streaming
2. Social Content Creation
3. Ticketing & Live Events

As a group, we brainstormed ideas using FigJam. Once we settled on the idea we liked the best, we began creating a list of functional capabilities we wanted the app to include.
THE PROBLEM
College students often have problems selling tickets when they can't make it to a concert, often anxiously scrambling to find a buyer.

How can we provide concert attendees with a reliable way to quickly resell tickets at the last minute and recover some of their money?

Survey
To create our app, we wanted to understand consumer opinions to make sure that we were on the right path. We used a variety of different question formats, multiple choice determining and open response. We were able to obtain 30 anonymous, college-aged participant answers to the following questions:

1. How often do you go to concerts?
2. Where do you most often buy last-minute tickets? (Less than 48 hours before concert)
3. If you selected, "I don't buy last-minute tickets", explain why in a few sentences.
4. Have you ever been stuck with an event ticket that you can't sell?
5. If you answered "Yes" to the last question, how did you try to sell your ticket, and why do you think it didn't sell?
6. If you have had a ticket you needed to sell, what type of ticket was it? (Skip if not applicable to you.)

Competitive Analysis
We researched the apps and services that are currently in use, including the biggest names like Stubhub and Ticketmaster, as well others with more similar niches like Gametime in order to compare features and determine our niche.

Results
The most important information that we gained from this survey was that, scaling up, ~97% of Tufts Students have been to a concert at least once. And, about a third of these concert goers have been stuck with a ticket they were unable to sell. Many of our participants used typical reselling platforms like Stubhub, but believed that it didn't sell because it was listed too last-minute or was priced too high.

These findings made clear that there was a market for us to grow into, and that our app could directly address the pain points of users. Based on the information on the survey as well as research online, we analyzed market sizes to ensure we would have access to the potential return on investment

Site Map
Using Figma, I created this site map to clarify the list of functions we wanted to incorporate as reference. Main pages are marked in dark green hexagons, static information in light green, and then dynamic/intractable elements are marked in orange.
Wireframes
Using the site map as my guide, I created some low fidelity wireframes for the app. This phase was important in establishing an intuitive layout, free from the influence of branding.

Brand Development
We wanted our brand to feel dynamic, lively, community oriented, and youthful. I created this mood board to use as visual inspiration for our brand's personality, including two HEX codes to use as our signature colors.
Figma Prototype
Merging together both the branding and the wireframes, using our two signature colors, I created these key pages: loading, home, buy, and list ticket. I created interactions using Figma to demonstrate how a user would navigate through the app.

Reflections
Participating in the Producthon was an incredible experience that challenged me to grow in multiple areas. It provided a platform to practice public speaking, rapid idea generation, and effective collaboration under tight time constraints. Working with my group was not only productive but also enjoyable—we maintained open communication and actively listened to each other's ideas, fostering a truly supportive environment. We efficiently divided tasks, ensuring each member stayed involved in each step of the process and provided mutual support when needed. This experience reinforced the importance of adaptability, teamwork, and clear communication, all essential skills that I'll carry forward into future projects.
